Drive, Chip & Putt: The Junior Skills Challenge — and How Tough Regionals Really Are

The Drive, Chip and Putt Championship is a free national competition for boys and girls ages 7–15. Run by the Masters, USGA, and PGA of America, it tests the three essentials of golf: driving, chipping, and putting. Players hit just nine shots total—three drives, three chips, and three putts—and earn points based on distance and accuracy. Separate divisions exist for each age group (7-9, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15).

Getting to the regional level is extremely selective. Tens of thousands of juniors enter each year. Only the top three in each age/gender category advance from local qualifiers. Sub-regionals cut the field to the top two. At regionals, just one player per category moves on to the National Finals at Augusta National the Sunday before the Masters. Reaching regionals means you’ve already outperformed the vast majority of competitors nationwide.

Bryson Chang claimed first place at the Boys 9-Hole Championships at Chambers Bay and continues to show strong fundamentals and composure as he advances in DCP.

Zoe Kotze dominated through the local and sub-regional at Ballenisles golf course in Palm Beach Gardens, FL regionals, demonstrating the consistency and focus required in this pure-skills format. She placed in first in both qualifiers  

Kate Hagen has been dominant in her age group, winning the Junior Tour powered by Under Armour Salt Lake event and the Junior World Qualifier (Girls 10 & Under). Her sharp short game makes her a natural fit for DCP.

Congrats to Bryson, Zoe, and Kate. Reaching regionals is a big achievement. We’re proud to have them representing Team Bonk and look forward to seeing them compete.
