Founder’s Thoughts: What BONK Tempo Actually Does

Now that we're in the heart of golf season and I've logged roughly 4–5 full rounds using BONK Tempo, there are a few observations that have become increasingly clear.

First, BONK Tempo does not fix your golf swing.

It won't prevent bad shots, and it certainly won't stop a series of bad shots. No training aid can magically correct poor mechanics, eliminate swing flaws, or replace quality instruction and practice. Golf is hard. Becoming a consistent golfer requires repetition, feedback, and muscle memory developed over time.

What BONK Tempo does exceptionally well is create awareness.

By slowing things down, Tempo allows your brain to better comprehend what is actually happening during the swing. It gives you the opportunity to recognize tendencies, identify flaws, and make adjustments before they become compounded on the golf course.

For me personally, two of my biggest struggles are early extension and coming over the top. When I use BONK Tempo on the range at a lower setting—typically around 40 BPM—I can immediately feel myself rushing to hit the ball. That urge to fire at the ball often causes me to stand up out of posture, lose balance, and create inconsistent contact.

When the timing is right and solid contact is made, the difference is noticeable. You tend to finish in a strong, athletic position with balance and control. When the timing is off, the finish usually tells the story. Tempo helps expose those differences in a way that's difficult to ignore.

What I've learned is that BONK Tempo works best as a warm-up and calibration tool before a round. More often than not, I've simply turned Tempo on and gone straight to the first tee without spending enough time on the range. Whenever I take the extra time to use Tempo during a proper warm-up session, my ball striking improves, my rhythm feels more natural, and my overall performance tends to be better.

The goal isn't to swing slower forever. The goal is to slow things down enough to feel the correct positions, develop awareness, and find balance. Once those sensations are understood, you can gradually increase speed while maintaining the same rhythm and control.

BONK Tempo won't fix your swing.

But it can help you understand your swing—and that's often the first step toward improvement.
